Letter: A roadmap for supporters of Trump who are calling for bipartisan calm

(White House Twitter account) President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021 condemning last week's violent attack on the nation's Capitol saying "there must be NO violence."

Do President Trump and Republican elected officials — senators and representatives who have supported him through the Jan. 6 violent raid on the U.S. Capitol — truly now want bipartisan calm? If yes, why not issue a statement of truth? Trump and congresspersons could admit the November election was fair, that Joe Biden legitimately won the presidency. They could apologize for trying to overturn the election via frivolous lawsuits, pressuring election officials or objecting to the electoral vote count. Finally, Trump could forcefully and repeatedly ask his supporters to cease plans to protest at state capitols and the federal complex and to accept Biden as the new president.
