Melauli villagers, who forced the government to shift the IIT project from their village, on Saturday resolved to continue their agitation till land ownership in the name of IIT is revoked and police cases against the villagers are withdrawn.
Addressing media persons at Melauli, villagers claimed that the government had transferred the land in the name of IIT.
In form 1/14 of Survey No 67/1, the Indian Institute of Technology, Goa (IIT Goa Society/MHRD) has been specified as the “occupant of the land”, they claimed.
“We welcome the government’s decision on shifting the project, and thank the Chief Minister for the move. But we will not withdraw our agitation till our demands are met,” said an elderly protestor.
Shubham Shivolkar, leader of protesting villagers, told ‘The Navhind Times’ that the villagers had asked the government to take back the district collector’s order transferring the land in the name of IIT, and “cancel the mutation in the name of IIT”.
The villagers’ names be re-entered in form 1/14 of Survey No 67/1, he demanded.
“We also demand that police cases against villagers be withdrawn immediately,” Shivolkar said.
Earlier, AAP MLA from Delhi, Raghav Chadha visited Melauli and spoke with the protesting villagers.
