CHENNAI: DMK leader M K Stalin on Saturday demanded Tamil Nadu government to announce Rs 30,000 per acre as compensation for the crops that were damaged in the recent rain.
He insisted chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami should ensure disbursement of the compensation without any delay.
Slamming the AIADMK government that channels were not desilted before the onset of the monsoon, Stalin said the government has been lethargic in disbursing the compensation to the farmers.
The CM, last week, said that the government would take up assessment of the crop loss due to unseasonal rainfall on war footing. Referring to the CM’s statement, Stalin questioned the delay in taking up the assessment and said it would add to the woes of the farming community.
He questioned the state government about Rs 600 crore compensation announced by the state government for Nivar cyclone and about the fund to the tune of Rs 3,758 crore from the Centre.
