Increased security in place at Michigan Capitol

The state police continues to augment its presence at the Michigan Capitol, and crews install a 6-foot fence around the building before potential protests ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration (Jan. 15)

JOE GASPER: I assure you that we take our responsibility for safeguarding the capital very seriously. Together with our law enforcement partners, we are prepared for the worst. But we remain hopeful that those who choose to demonstrate at our capital do so peacefully without violence or destruction of property.

In anticipation of an unknown number of demonstrators expected to gather on the grounds of the Capitol on Sunday, I am announcing here today that we are again increasing our uniformed presence.
