During the meeting at Mr Goyal’s residence, the visiting politician averred, “It is my hope that subsequent to completion of all types of ROBs and under-bridges in the next couple of years, traffic movement will ease. Last year, Madhya Pradesh was numero uno vis-à-vis wheat purchase at minimum support price. At present, 84 lakh metric tonnes are in storage and should be lifted in the not-too-distant future.”

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar was also present.

“I am profoundly grateful to Premier Narendra Modi for the fact that there was no wheat paucity whatsoever in the context of Public Distribution during the pandemic. Even pulses were made available under the Garib Kalyan Yojana. Approximately Rs 7,000 crore were expended by my dispensation and if reimbursed at the earliest the amount could be channelised into other development work. A proposal has been sent to the Centre for complete tax reimbursement for all related procedures,” the Chief Minister said.

From 2011-12; the state spent Rs 3,700 cr under the food distribution system on ration lifting, which is still pending with New Delhi. Mr Tomar provided an assurance in this regard.
