MANGALURU: Mangaluru city police arrested a person, who allegedly set fire to make-shift beef stalls in Olapete, Thokottu, last week.
Accused Nagaraj, 39, a daily wage worker and resident of Vitobha Nagar, Thokottu, was upset that the shopkeeper refused to give him extra meat, in addition to humiliating him.
N Shashi Kumar, city police commissioner, told reporters on Saturday that the investigation revealed that Nagaraj had purchased 1kg of beef from one of the stalls for Rs 300. When buying meat, he requested the stall owner for some extra meat. The meat stall owner not only turned down his request but also humiliated Nagaraj. He later took the meat to his friend Latheef’s home, where he was staying. He cooked it and ate it.
A day later, on January 8, to avenge the humiliation, Nagaraj went to a local store, purchased a can of kerosene and at night set fire to the beef stalls. After coming home, he told his mother about the incident.
Nagaraj was arrested him from his house on Saturday.
