LUCKNOW: In order to infuse confidence among health professionals and workers for the mass vaccination drive against Covid-19, the head of the 12
medical education institutes and hospitals will be among the first to get the vaccine shot on Day 1 when the city takes a giant leap to counter the pandemic on Saturday.
In all, 1,200 health workers would be vaccinated at 12 centres in Lucknow on Saturday. These centres are KGMU, SGPGIMS, RMLIMS,
Balrampur Hospital, Veerangana Avantibai Hospital, Era’s Medical College, Sahara Hospital,
Medanta Hospital, TS Mishra
Medical College and
Community Health Centres at Mall, Chinhat and Mohanlalganj. All the vaccines to be used on the first day were shifted from the store house in Aishbagh to cold chain points nearest to the centres amid heavy security on Friday. The vials were kept in cold carriers to maintain 2-8 degrees Celsius temperature range.
“All the beneficiaries were also informed through the phone about the time and place for inoculation on Friday. The vaccination will take place from 9am to 5pm in two shifts. About 50 persons will be vaccinated in each shift. The staff involved in administering vaccines have been asked to report at the centres by 8am,” said CMO Dr Sanjay Bhatnagar. District immunization officer, Dr MK Singh, said all the beneficiaries have been told to bring their IDs which will be verified before giving shots. The second dose of the vaccine to these beneficiaries would be given after 28 days. In all, there are 61 vaccination centres in the city. While 12 centres would start from Saturday, the remaining are expected to become operational in the subsequent phases.
