Budget 2021: You could soon get branded ready-to-eat meals during train journeys – details inside

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is looking to increase its revenues by offering ready-to-eat meals on trains. The Railways has joined hands with the likes of Haldiram’s, ITC, MTR, Wagh Bakri and other food giants for this venture and a decision on this could come in this year’s Budget.

The government now has trained its guns for speedy implementation of solutions for travellers and is also looking at ways to compensate for the losses incurred by IRCTC in its catering business because of the ongoing pandemic situation, according to a Zee Business report.

The ready-to-eat segment via IRCTC is a concept that is widely followed in the airline industry. The government is planning to implement the same model even in the Railways and has already tied up with top companies in this segment.

The big names which have been taken into the fold include MTR, Wagh Bakri, Haldiram’s and ITC. All these companies are now planning to move in tandem with the IRCTC. Though, there are some problems that are being faced to implement this and are now in the process of getting ironed out.

He said that any major announcement with regards to this is expected to come in the Budget 2021 announcements.
