Y Khemchand: High time to assess issues and scope of theatre and performing arts of Manipur

Imphal, January 14 2021: Expressing concern over the current situation of theatres and performing arts in the State, Deputy Speaker Y Khemchand said that it is now time to assess the issues plaguing theatre and performing arts in Manipur.

The Speaker said this while addressing the inaugural session of the 2nd day of CWAF Fest-2021 organised by the Cultural Workers & Activists Forum (CWAF) at Hongnemshang Auditorium, NT Theatre in Changangei Uchekon.

Apart from assessing theatre and performing arts, the time is also right to figure out the future prospects for its survival, said the Speaker and added that bigger budgets from the State Government are vital to preserve the art and culture of the State.

Y Khemchand further assured the CWAF to provide all possible assistance and support in its endeavours to preserve the art and culture of the State.

Manipuri Shumang Leela and cinema artist Narendra Ningomba also spoke on the importance of preserving the art and culture of Manipur.

The programme was attended by MANIDCO and MANITRON Chairman Dr Y Radheshyam; Theatre Centre, Manipur president Wareppa Naba; JNMDA director Pukhrambam Bilash Singh and actor Gurumayum Ranjit Sharma as presidium members.

Panthoibi Sheitha Jagoi, Pung Cholom, mime and Shumang Leela were performed as a part of the programme.
