Climbing coaching course concludes

Imphal, January 14 2021: The 3 day State level basic sport climbing coaching course organised by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), North East Zone under the aegis ofManipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) and Manipur Sport Climbing Association concluded today.

The course began on January 12, 2021 under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.

T Phulen Meitei, Director Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur and Bijoy Kakchingtabam, president MMTA graced the function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

G Anita Devi (Padmashri), Chairperson, IMF NE Zone presided the function.

The main objective of the training camp is talent scouting and also to improve their self esteem, confidence, cooperation and a sense of discipline through the spirit of sportsmanship, said IMF NE Zone in a statement.

Altogether 110 (boys and girls) participants took part in the training programme.

The participants were given classes in various sports climbing activities such as bouldering, speed climbing, lead climbing etc.

A speed climbing competition was also organised.

Dr K Romeo Meetei, secretary IMF NE Zone and course director gave the report of the training.

He requested the Director YAS to provide a suitable place at Khuman Lampak sports complex for installation of a State of the Art climbing wall system for the athletes of Manipur in line with other States.

According to the statement, the YAS Director has given an assurance of providing a suitable place in the campus and asked the IMF NE Zone to submit a DPR in this regard.

The Director also expressed desire to install climbing wall systems in every district of Manipur.

The event was conducted following SOPs for Covid-19, it added.
