Syed Mushtaq Ali T20: The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which started on January 10 boasts of some big IPL stars taking part in the competition. The tournament gives a platform to the players to impress the IPL franchises before the beginning of the 14th edition of the lucrative league. Come, let’s take a look at how some of the big names in the tournament have performed so far.

Shikhar Dhawan (Delhi Capitals)

Shikhar Dhawan, who represents the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, has been poor with the bat in the tournament so far. With scores of 23 and 5 in the two matches he has played for his domestic side Delhi, the Indian international is yet to make a mark in the tournament. However, Delhi has won both their matches and sits at the top of Elite Group E.

Dinesh Karthik (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthik started his Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign with a bang. The KKR wicketkeeper scored a valuable 46 runs off just 17 balls against Jharkhand which helped his side post a mammoth total of 189. In the side’s other two matches against Assam and Odisha, Karthik did not have to bat as Tamil Nadu’s top order performed brilliantly to seal consecutive victories.

Yuzvendra Chahal (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Yuzvendra Chahal’s Haryana has won both their opening matches in the tournament. The RCB leggie was brilliant in the first match against Andhra Pradesh as he picked up 2 wickets for just 21 runs in his 4 overs. However, the bowler turned out to be costly in the second match against Puducherry by conceding a whopping 47 runs without a wicket.

Ishant Sharma (Delhi Capitals)

Delhi Capitals’ Ishant Sharma returned to competitive cricket with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after he was ruled out with an injury during the IPL 2020 campaign. He made the most of his return by picking up 4 wickets in the two matches he has played for Delhi. He has also been highly economical in his bowling by giving away just 16 and 17 runs in the first two matches respectively.

Suryakumar Yadav (Mumbai Indians)

Suryakumar Yadav, who took the IPL by storm last year, has looked out of form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His team Mumbai has lost both their opening matches with the batsman yet to fire in the tournament. With scores of 7 and 38, Yadav seems to have lost his magic touch which we witnessed during the IPL.
