EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

The S&P BSE Sensex hovered around 49,230 levels, down 340 points, and the Nifty50 index gave up the 14,550-mark. HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Dr Reddy's, and Tech Mahindra were all down 1 per cent.
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel surged 5 per cent after the MSCI said it would decide on increasing the weight of Bharti Airtel during its upcoming index review in February.
HCL Technologies also dipped 2 per cent in early deals despite posting a 34.8 per cent year-on-year (YoY) jump in its consolidated net profit to Rs 3,969 crore for the December 2020 quarter (FY2021). READ MORE
The Nifty sectoral indices were trading largely in the red, with the Nifty IT index, down 0.8 per cent, leading the list of losers.
In the broader markets, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were trading 0.1 per cent up, each.
Earnings today
