Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar emphasised the need to play sports regularly to maintain physical as well as mental fitness. Inaugurating the three-day Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Women Hockey Tournament-2021 at Ambedkar stadium here on Friday, the Minister said instead of physical exercise, people were nowadays playing games on mobile phones and laptops.
He wanted them to put an end to such practice and urged them to spare time to play games to lead a healthy life. “The Telangana government is encouraging sportspersons to take part in the national and international events by giving top priority for sports. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is encouraging sportspersons by extending support to them,” he said.
On the occasion, Kamalakar felicitated international hockey player Soundarya. He also termed Guru Gobind Singh as a courageous and spiritual leader who lost his four sons in the fight against injustice. Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao, former Mayor S Ravinder Singh, Telangana Hockey Association joint secretary Harmith Kaur, Olympic Association district in-charge Nandelli Mahipal and others participated in the function.
