UP council polls: BJP announces four candidates, two SP candidates file nominations

Lucknow, Jan 15 (UNI) The BJP announced the names of four candidates for the Uttar Pradesh legislative council polls here on Friday.

On the other hand two official candidates of the Samajwadi Party - Ahmed Hasan and Rajendra Chowdhury filed their nominations for the council polls on Friday.

Both the SP candidates filed their nominations for 2 seats in the presence of party president Akhilesh Yadav along with several of party legislators.

Meanwhile the BJP on Friday announced the names of four candidates, including 3 candidates who were repeated by the party.

The renominated candidates are deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, State BJP president Swatantra Deo Singh and Laxman Acharya.

Bureaucrat turned politician A K Sharma, who joined the BJP on Thursday, was also given the ticket.

The party is yet to announce the names of 6 more candidates, which it said it will do in a day or two.

January 18 is the last day for the filing of nominations for 12 seats in the legislative council.
