Temporary ban on polio vaccination program

Prior to Corona vaccination, the government has imposed a temporary ban on polio vaccination. The national polio vaccination program was to be started across the country from January 17, but the Union Health Ministry has asked states and union territories to stop it till further orders.

"Not a single polio case has been found in the country since January 13, 2011," a senior ministry official said. Since January 16, 10 million health workers are to be included in the corona vaccination, so polio vaccination is currently stopped. Once all health workers are vaccinated, polio vaccination will be started next month.

However, the ministry in its order has not given any clear reason for stopping the vaccination. The ministry said that this decision has been taken due to unforeseen circumstances. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan says health services were badly affected during the lockdown.

The government does not want the corona vaccination to have any impact on other health services or universal immunization programs. Therefore, the government is appealing to the states to pay attention to all health services.
