Patna, Jan 14 (UNI) Millions of people today took holy dip in Ganga and other rivers in Bihar on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Millions of people thronged on the bank of Ganga and other rivers in Bihar and took holy dip as per traditions, prevalent since long. The day marked the beginning of an auspicious period after the end of Kharmas.
In Patna, people started reaching on the bank of Ganga river since early morning and some of over enthusiasts among them reached on the bank of Ganga river last night itself. After taking holy dip in Ganga river, devotees worshipped in temples and donated money and commodities to Sadhus, priests and beggars.
Despite cold weather and fear of Corona pandemic, devotees practised the conventional rituals to mark the occasion. Adequate security arrangements were made on the bank of Ganga and other rivers to ensure physical distancing among the devotees to protect them
from any chance of getting infected with Coronavirus.
Bihar Governor Fagu Chauhan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar greeted the people on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Both wished the people very happy and prosperous lives on the occasion. Reports of celebrations of Makar Sankranti also percolated from various parts of the state.
