There won’t be a second wave of PlayStation 5 pre-orders in India. According to a Twitter account that tracks PS5 India-related news, the company will not have any more pre-orders for the PS5. IGN India has been able to verify its claims via sources at retail and can confirm that the information posted is accurate.
“We are not planning pre-order for PS5 before 2nd February,” the company stated. “Please stay in touch with retailers for future pre-order updates.”
PS5 will not be available for pre-order again before launch. They have basically taken back their previous statement.

This is in sharp contrast to the company’s previous statement on PS5 pre-orders.
“PS5 has met with unprecedented enthusiasm by PlayStation fans in India, resulting in a stockout during the pre-order period,” said a spokesperson for Sony India to IGN India via email on January 12. “Keeping the current situation in mind, we kindly urge all customers to keep their health and safety first and refrain from visiting any retail store to pre-order a PS5. Please stay in touch with retailers for the next pre-order phase.”
We have reached out to Sony to ask what changed between then and now and will update the story if we hear from the company. However we’re skeptical of hearing anything to the contrary.
Reason being, multiple retailers speaking to IGN India on the condition of anonymity claimed that Sony had no plans for a second wave to begin with. In fact, the company has already been talking to them to list upcoming releases like the upcoming Returnal and Nioh Collection.
When can you buy a PS5 in India next?
And with no more PS5 pre-orders planned, it will be interesting to see if India gets more stock on the PS5 release date of February 2, 2021.
In comparison the PS4 sold out within two weeks of sale in January 2014 in India. The next PS4 restock was at the end of April in that year. Sony had to ensure console stock was on the shelves due to the release of the first Watch Dogs game for which it had an exclusive marketing deal. Hopefully we won’t have to wait that long for the next PS5 restock.
For what it’s worth sources familiar with the company’s plans tell us that supply is expected to regularise by the middle of the year at the very latest. Though given the demand for the PS5 in India and the world over, it remains to be seen if this indeed holds true.
