NEW DELHI: Food services company Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd (JFL), which runs Domino’s Pizza and Dunkin Donuts, has entered the list of top 100 companies in India by average market cap for the period July-December 2020, JFL chief executive Pratik Pota tweeted on Thursday. JFL was at rank 229 in 2017, Pota added.
The development comes at a time when the restaurant sector has been recovering from a Covid-induced slump which saw dine-in sales plunging and an estimated 30 per cent restaurants and bars having shut down permanently across India. The revival is being led by the quick service restaurants (QSRs) category. Domino’s leads the country’s QSR category with 1,264 outlets.
Last month, JFL announced an investment of Rs 92 crore in casual dining chain Barbeque Nation Hospitality for a 10.76 per cent equity stake. Barbeque Nation has a footprint of over 100 restaurants in India. JFL, which also has rights to develop and operate Domino’s Pizza in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, forayed in the biryani business under the Ekdum brand last month, for delivery, takeaway and dine-ins. Ekdum is the company’s second own brand. Last year, it had entered the casual Chinese dining space with Hong’s Kitchen. JFL has also launched ready-to-cook sauces and pastes under the ChefBoss brand to leverage the rapidly growing in-home cooking trend which saw category sales surge amid the pandemic.
