Rewari: Farmers at Jaisinghpur Khera, the protest site at Haryana-Rajasthan border, have decided to move towards the national capital on Republic Day.
On a call of ‘Dilli Chalo’, farmers from Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana gathered near borders on December 13 to march towards Delhi, but Haryana police stopped them at Jaisinghpur Khera. After eight rounds of talks remained inconclusive, farmers affiliated to the All India Kisan Coordination Committee (AIKCC) have decided to move towards Delhi.
The protesting farmer unions said they will take out a tractor parade towards Delhi on January 26 if their demands are not met.
Sanjay Madav, a member of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha — the umbrella body of farmer unions protesting at Delhi’s borders — and the state convener of the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee in Rajasthan, said a meeting was held on Tuesday evening after the Supreme Court’s decision.
“We had given a call to all districts in Rajasthan to come up at the protest site in Jaisinghpur Khera with their tractor trolleys. Our objective is not to sit on the Haryana-Rajasthan border, we are here on the call of Dilli Chalo,” he said.
A group of farmers associated with the Gramin Kisan Samiti and Kisan Army had tried to proceed towards Delhi from Jaisinghpur Khera on December 31 last year but was stopped at Masani in Dharuhera. However, amid heavy police presence and barricading, farmers could not enter in Gurgaon. “We will follow the call of All India Kisan Coordination Committee. If we get an opportunity to move towards Delhi before Republic Day, we will move,” said Maninder Singh Maan, said their leader at Masani.
Meanwhile, a group of farmers from Andhra Pradesh and Orissa joined the ongoing agitation at Jaisinghpur Khera on Tuesday and around 800 more from Kerala are expected to arrive on Thursday.
