54,000 doses of Covishield arrive, 28,769 Covid cases in Manipur

Imphal, Jan 13 (UNI) Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today received
54,000 doses of COVID-19 Vaccine “Covishield” at Imphal International
Airport which Covishield, is produced by Serum Institute of India.
N. Biren Singh said the first batch of vaccination to health workers would start on January 16.
A total of 8,476 health workers will be vaccinated at ten places including Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), District Headquarters of Churachandpur, Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Tamenglong and Shija Hospital and Research Institute on the same day, he added.
The Chief Minister showed his thankfulness to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan for their tireless efforts in timely distributing the vaccine to all over the
Country and for giving priority to the State considering its geographical location.
He added that the vaccines which arrived today would be distributed to all the District Headquarters for vaccination.
Biren Singh also said that vaccination would be done on a priority basis and systematically as per the guidelines. There would be no favouritism and nepotism during the vaccination programme, he said.
The State has 39,991 health workers and they will be vaccinated on the first batch at 246 vaccination centres including 138 Government centres and 108 private centres. The dry run was also done in 246
vaccination centres, he added.
Hoping that with the arrival of the vaccine, the State Government will succeed in its efforts to save the population from COVID-19, he appealed to the public to still strictly comply with Standard
Operating Procedures, avoid unnecessary gatherings and take permission from concerned authorities before organizing any social gathering as before until the whole population of the State are covered with the vaccination programme.
Meanwhile in the past twenty-four hours, 41 persons (ISM, 26F) from general population and three personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases.
The positive persons were tested at RIMS (10), JNIMS (7). CMC (1), Advance Hospital (1), Raj Medicity (8), Shija Hospital (3), Escent Diagnostics (1), Ukhrul (1), Churachandpur (11) and Tengnoupal (1).
The positive cases from the general population were from Imphal West (10), Imphal East (6), Thoubal (4). Kakching (2), Chandel (1), Churachandpur (13), Senapati (2), Kamjong (1), Tengnoupal (1) and Noney (1). All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing were in place.
In the last 24 hours, there was no report of death. The cumulative number of deaths was 365. The total number of discharged persons was 56. They were from Home Isolation (49), JNIMS (2) and Bishnupur (5).
The cumulative number of positive cases was 28,769 (General Population — 25,368 and Central Security Personnel — 3.401). The cumulative number of recovered cases was 27,935 (General Population — 24,567 and Central Security Personnel — 3,368).
The number of active cases was 469 (General Population — 440 and Central Security Personnel — 29). The recovery rate was 97.10 pc said Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Spokesperson, Health Department, Manipur.
