Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Wednesday said that 12,419 frontline workers working in various government and private hospitals in the district would be administered Covid vaccine in the first phase. While 4,243 are working in government hospitals, 8,176 are discharging duties in private nursing homes. Doctors, medical staff, health workers, pharmacists, ANMs, Anganwadi staff, and ASHA workers would be given vaccine in the first phase, he informed.
The Minister was speaking at a preparatory meeting for the vaccination drive in the district with public representatives and officials here. Later, He inspected the arrangements at the district headquarters hospital.
Kamalakar said the vaccination process in the district will commence on January 16, when 120 persons would be administered vaccines in four centres – district headquarters hospital, Huzurabad areas hospital, Butti Rajaram colony and Thimmapur PHCs. At each center, 30 persons would be administered the vaccine on the first day.
The full-fledged vaccination programmes will start from January 18 in 31 centres across the district. The second dose would be administered with a gap of 24 to 28 days.
Kamalakar appealed to the public representatives and officials to create awareness and develop confidence among the public about vaccine. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has also asked public representatives to develop confidence among the public by taking part in the vaccination programme.
Stating that the vaccine was hundred percent safe, the Minister said that vaccinated people would be placed under observation for half an hour. Moreover, doctors would be available in vaccination centres to provide treatment if anybody developed fever or rash after taking the vaccine.
Collector K Shashanka informed that district administration made all arrangements to provide treatment if anybody developed health problems after taking the vaccine. Such people would immediately be shifted to either district headquarters hospital or Huzurabad hospital in 108 ambulances and also deployed specialist doctors to provide treatment.
Zilla Parishad chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya, Karimnagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Y Sunil Rao, MLAs Sunke Ravishankar and Rasamai Balkishan and others participated in the programme.
