RDPR department plumps for green energy self-reliant gram panchayats in Karnataka

Rural development and panchayati raj department will opt for solar energy solutions to power gram panchayat offices in Karnataka. Tenders have been finalized for this ambitious project that will be implemented at a cost of Rs 300 crore in the next two years.
Chief executive officers of zilla panchayats may choose from among the empanelled agencies to implement the project in gram panchayats in their respective districts.
This initiative, minister for rural development and panchayati raj K S Eshwarappa told media here on Tuesday will reduce dependency of gram panchayats on grid power and also increase their services delivery efficiency.
It will also help pare their energy bills which have hitherto proved to be a major drain on their finances, he said adding the agency that will implement the project will also have to maintain the project for a period of five-years.
