Imphal, January 12 2021: With the Government of India all set to kick-start a massive inoculation campaign against COVID-19 from January 16, the State is likely to get 45,000 to 50,000 vaccine dos in the first phase.

The vaccines are set to arrive tomorrow evening.

Sources informed that the Centre would start delivering COVID vaccine to the State from tomorrow.

Informing that over 41,000 health workers of Government and private hospitals would be inoculated with Covishield, the sources said that inoculation would be done at 10 places on January 16 .

The places selected for COVID-19 inoculation are RIMS, JNIMS, Shija Hospital, District Hospital Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Chandel, Ukhrul, Senapati and Tamenglong.

The inoculation drive would begin with the staff of the respective hospital.

100 people would be inoculated in a day at each of these inoculation centres.

At this rate, it is speculated that it would take around five/six months to vaccinate all the health care workers of the State.

The 10 inoculation centres have been selected after considering availability of specialist doctors and anaesthetists in case of medical emergency and other exigencies, said the sources.

Vaccine doses brought to the State would be first stored at the storage facilities of Health and Family Welfare Department before they are dispatched to different districts, added the sources.
