New Delhi: Cricketer Hanuma Vihari, whose match-saving knock in Sydney enabled India to draw the Test match against Australia Monday, has won the internet with his clap back at BJP leader Babul Supriyo.
Supriyo, who is the Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, had in a tweet Monday accused Vihari of “murdering cricket” by scoring 7 runs off 109 balls. The minister ended his tweet by saying he knew nothing about cricket, and even misspelt Vihari’s name as ‘Hanuma Bihari’.
Playing 109 balls to score 7 !That is atrocious to say the least•Hanuma Bihari has not only killed any Chance for India to achieve a historic win but has also murdered Cricket.. not keeping win an option, even if remotely, is criminal.

In response, Vihari just corrected his name and posted: “*Hanuma Vihari”
*Hanuma Vihari

This subtle correction soon went viral with many hailing Vihari’s composed yet sharp jibe at Supriyo.
Teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, whose partnership with Vihari cinched the draw for India, also hailed the tweet.

India’s crucial Test draw in Sydney
A 42-over standoff against Australian bowling by cricketers Hanuma Vihari and R. Ashwin cinched a crucial draw for India at the Test match in Sydney Monday.
Vihari was unbeaten at 23 runs off 161 balls despite a hamstring injury due to which he was unable to run between wickets. Ashwin was also battling a back injury during the match.
Captain Ajinkya Rahane said Vihari’s efforts to help India draw the Test match against Australia was as special as his Test century in West Indies in 2019.
“Today we all saw that special knock. I think this knock was more special than his hundred (in 2019 in the West Indies) especially the way he batted after getting injured,” Rahane said at the virtual post-match press conference.

ThePrint has the finest young reporters, columnists and editors working for it. Sustaining journalism of this quality needs smart and thinking people like you to pay for it. Whether you live in India or overseas, you can do it here.
