US carries out first federal execution of female death row inmate in 67 years

Washington, Jan 13 (UNI) Lisa Montgomery, the only female federal death row inmate in the United States, was executed at a facility in Indiana on Wednesday, the New York Times newspaper reports.
Montgomery, who became the first female federal death row prisoner to be executed since 1953, was pronounced dead at 0631 hrs (GMT) after receiving a lethal injection, the newspaper reports.
She was sentenced to death for the 2004 murder of Bobbie Jo Stinnett, who was eight months pregnant at the time.
The death sentence was carried out shortly after the US Supreme Court overturned a stay of execution order granted by a federal judge.
With Montgomery's execution, 11 federal death row inmates have been put to death in the United States since July, when US President Donald Trump resumed federal executions following a 17-year hiatus.
