Daniel Akpeyi has dismissed suggestions that Kaizer Chiefs will become embroiled in a relegation fight this season.
The 2019/20 league runners-up are currently in 14th place on the Premiership standings with just one win from nine league games, and one point above the relegation places.
They have though progressed to the Group Stages of the CAF Champions League with gritty displays in recent weeks.
And ahead of facing AmaZulu on Wednesday, the Amakhosi goalkeeper says his side will stay mentally strong as they look to turn their season around.
Akpeyi said on Goal: "It's only normal for supporters and every loving person of Kaizer Chiefs to be panicking about our situation because things are not coming right.
"But it's a big team and a big brand and we don't want to disgrace ourselves and embarrass the team as well.
"The confidence that I have is that this team cannot be relegated. I know from the response of the players, from their mentality right now, we are ready to take a different step into the next game. Relegation is not something we are panicking about at the moment," added Akpeyi.
"I assure you that the players are working physically and mentally to make sure we do better. The AmaZulu game hopefully it will be a turn-around for us."
