First consignment of covid vaccine arrives Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 12 (UNI) The first consignment of the COVID-19 vaccines arrived
in Biju Patnaik International Airport from the Serum Institute of Pune in a special
cargo flight this afternoon.
Soon after the vaccines reached they were taken to state vaccine centres with
police escort.
The authorities asked the district collectors to collect the vaccines from the state
vaccine centres.
The vaccines would be sent to district cold chains and finally to the sessions sites
where the health workers will be vaccinated .
Additional Chief Secretary P K Mohapatra said 4.08 lakh doses arrived and they
would be inoculated to 1.91 lakh Health workers, Anganwadi workers at 160
vaccination station sites on January 16 next.
The inoculation would be done under the supervision of the state Monitoring
Committee constituted for the purpose.
Though 3.33 crore health workers have been identified for the inoculation but
vaccination would be given first to the elderly among them and later others
would be innoculated in phases.
In each centre 100 health workers would be vaccinated .
Bhubaneswar Muncipal Corporation Commissioner Prem Chand Choudhury
said in Bhubaneswar 27 government hospitals and 18 private hospitals have
been selected for the vaccination.
As many as 21,000 health workers including doctors have been listed for the
vaccination.
Odisha government has postponed the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation
campaign for three days from January 17 to 19 due to Covid -19 vaccination.
