HUBBALLI/BENGALURU: The Congress has proposed to introduce a new method for party hopefuls to get ticket to contest elections.

The party will soon come out with a set of guidelines for distribution of tickets and it is purportedly being done to ensure loyalists are given a chance and turncoats kept away.
“The new system will be introduced from the forthcoming zilla panchayat, taluk pachayat and municipal corporation elections,” said KPCC president DK Shivakumar, addressing the first Sankalpa Samavesh held in Hubballi on Monday. Congress plans to hold a series of such rallies across the state in an apparent bid to revive the party. “Organisational skills, experience and other abilities of the aspirants will be considered while giving party ticket and after scrutinising their applications,” Shivakumar said.
The KPCC president said the new method of issuing tickets would prevent misuse of B-forms. The AICC is expected to issue a circular in this regard in a day or two, Shivakumar added. According to reports, those candidates who want to contest elections on a Congress ticket will be required to fill a five-page application form that will ‘test’ their loyalty, knowledge about the constituency and their strengths. The aspirants are also required to give details of their previous experience of contesting elections and by what margin they won or lost.
The new way of giving party ticket has been reportedly devised to find the right candidate to contest each seat in the 2023 assembly polls. Shivakumar also informed that Sankalpa Samavesh is being held across the state to transform the mass-based party into a cadre-based one. He said the next convention will be held in Kalaburagi on January 18.
