
New Delhi: The Centre is all set to launch a new flagship programme – Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban) – to provide piped water supply and tap connections to all households in cities with less than 100,000 population over the next five years.
The government is expected to earmark ₹1.35 lakh crore for the mission from April 2021 to March 31, 2026, well-placed people aware of the development told ET. The government is expected to announce the mission in the Union Budget for 2021-22 on February 1, they said. The housing and urban affairs ministry would be the nodal agency for the mission to lay out water pipelines.
