January is not even half over and S4 Capital just made its third acquisition of the year.
The latest deal is for Shanghai-based creative agency Tomorrow, which is merging with S4’s content agency MediaMonks, giving the company a greater presence in the world’s second largest ad market.
Tomorrow was founded in 2015 by Rogier Bikker, who will lead the MediaMonks/Tomorrow business in China. Its focus is on creating integrated brand and social campaigns. With a staff of nearly 50, clients include Burberry, Budweiser, Beyond Meat, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Crocs and Red Bull.
“I’ve always been a raging bull on China’s economy, its consumers and its brands,” said S4’s executive chairman Martin Sorrell, adding that the market is a priority for the company. The deal is “one of several moves” in the company’s China expansion plan, Sorrell added.
The deal follows, by a week, S4’s acquisition of two U.S.-based firms and what it said would be an accelerated M&A pace this year.
With the deal, S4Capital will have around 500 people in Asia-Pacific across its content and data & digital media practices, out of a total of approximately 4,000 staffers worldwide.
