The deceased, P Indu from Erode, was an assistant professor in the SRM Dental College and had been working there for two years. She was also a deputy warden of the hostel and used to live in room number 22.

On Monday night since Indu did not come out of her room for a long time, the hostel warden went to meet her. When she did not respond to knocking at the door, the warden informed the police.

The Maraimalai Nagar police arrived at the spot and broke open the door to find Indu hanging from the ceiling using her dupatta. The police rushed her to the SRM hospital but she was declared dead. The body was then sent for post-mortem examination to the Chengalpattu government hospital.

The Maraimalai Nagar police have registered a case and looking into the possible reason for the suicide. Sources in the police said that Indu's father died last month and she may have killed herself in grief. The police are also investigating whether she was facing any problems in college.
