Dead Cells' second paid expansion Fatal Falls gets late January release date

Hardened explorers of developer Motion Twin's majestic rogue-like action-platformer Dead Cells will have new avenues for adventure on 26th January, now confirmed as the release date for second paid expansion Fatal Falls.

Fatal Falls, which follows from last year's The Bad Seed paid DLC, throws open more doors of Dead Cells' ever-shifting castle to offer passage to two new biomes - Fractured Shrines and The Undying Shores - as well as introducing new enemies, a new boss, and new weapons.

Both biomes exist beyond the castles walls, with Fractured Shrines resembling a series of islands high in the clouds, occupied by pagan snake people and giant axe-wielding statues. The Undying Shores, meanwhile, unfolds against an imposing cliff face lashed by a perpetual storm; players can escape the rain via a connected cave system, although this is said to be home to "weird experiments and undead healers".

According to Motion Twin - or rather, subsidiary Evil Empire, which now handles Dead Cells' development - both new areas are mid-game biomes which serve as alternative paths to Stilt Village/Clock Tower and Slumbering Sanctuary/Forgotten Sepulcher. And as for the new boss encounter, that takes places at the new Mausoleum - described home to a gardener, who adores flowers and mushrooms.

Dead Cells' latest DLC additions get an airing in the newly released Fatal Falls trailer above, and the expansion will cost a relatively minuscule £4.49/$4.99 USD when it comes to PC, Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 26th January.

Motion Twin has also confirmed that the game's free Malaise update, which launched on PC at the end of last year, will be making its way to consoles some time in February.
