NIA files charge sheet against medico in ISKP case

NIA files charge sheet against medico in ISKP case

New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) The National Investigation Agency on Tuesday filed a charge sheet before the Delhi Special Court against a doctor, in connection with a case related to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), a part of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), under Sections 120B read with 124A ,125 of IPC and Sections 18, 20, 38 and 39 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Officials in the probe agency said the accused was identified as Abdur Rahman 'Dr Brave' (28), a resident of Bengaluru. He had been furthering ideology and activities of the proscribed terrorist organisation ISKP, in connivance with co-accused Jahanzaib Sami and others, for committing subversive/anti-national activities in India.

The NIA had filed a charge sheet earlier on September 2 last year against five accused, including Jahanzaib Sami and Hina Bashir Beigh of Srinagar, Abdullah Basith of Hyderabad, and Sadiya Anwar Shaikh and Nabeel Siddick Khatri of Pune, under Sections 120B, 124A, 153A and 201 of IPC and Sections 13, 17, 18, 38, 39 40 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

This case was related to the arrest of Jahanzaib Sami Wani and his wife Hina Bashir Beigh from Okhla Vihar of Jamia Nagar in Delhi by Delhi Police's Special Cell, after input of their affiliation to the banned terrorist organisation ISKP, as they were planning subversive/anti-national activities in India.

NIA took over the case on March 20, 2020 and started investigation.

Abdur Rahman, a student of Bangalore Medical College ,was arrested on August 17 by NIA. He was radicalised, listening to the online lectures of hard line Islamic preachers, including 'Anwar Awlaki'.

Subsequently, he came in contact with other radicalised youth and travelled to Syria in December, 2013 and participated in various terrorist activities of ISIS.

'After his return to India, he continued to remain associated with the ideology of ISIS. Utilising his knowledge of Ophthalmic Lasers and Medical Science, he made efforts to develop applications for medical and military requirements of ISIS,' the national agency alleged in the charge sheet.

He was also in regular contact with ISIS terrorists located abroad as well as in India, including Jahanzaib Sami on Threema, a secure messaging platform.

Rahman had achieved significant progress towards developing a medical application for the treatment of ISIS terrorists and also a Laser Guided Anti-Tank Missile application for controlling the trajectory of the missiles for enhancing their effectiveness for furthering the cause of ISIS, the NIA said, adding that further investigation in this case was under progress.
