NCM for Wakf Board in Pondy

Puducherry, Jan 12 (UNI) Noting that Puducherry is not having a Wakf Board for nearly 15 years, the National Commission for Minorities on Tuesday requested Lt Governor Kiran Bedi to direct the Chief Secretary to explore the possibility of setting up the Wakf Board here.
Talking to newspersons here, Vice-Chairman of NCM Atif Rasheed said that he held discussions with Muslims and Christians and received some complaints.
One among them was that Puducherry was not having a Wakf Board for about 15 years and that the property of the Wakf Board was being encroached..The issues were discussed with the Chief Secretary and the LG, he added.
Mr Rasheed, who was here for the past two days to review the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), said that in another 2-3 months, all the Wakf properties would be tagged under the Geo Mapping System, so that no one could encroach them.
Other complaints included lack of a Haj committee and a State Minority Commission in the Union Territory. The issue was discussed with the LG and she agreed to set up the bodies, he added.
On a complaint that minority schools were not getting their due share of money from the Government, the NCM VC urged them to submit the school accounts at the earliest, to get their due share from the government.
He regretted that the ministry has not received any proposal for setting up of schools, IITs and playgrounds under the PMJVK from Puducherry, a scheme, for which the Central government will bear 60 per cent of the cost.
