The number of new cases of COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu went down further to 682 on Monday, with 20 of the 37 districts reporting new cases only in single-digit and another district, Perambalur, recording nil. The toll due to the infection, too, went down to six.

As has been the case since the beginning of the outbreak, Chennai recorded the most, 201 fresh cases, and was followed by Coimbatore (71), Chengalpattu (44), Salem (34) and Tiruvallur (30). On the other hand, Perambalur recorded none, Kallakurichi, Ramanathapuram and Villupuram added just one each, while Ariyalur and Tenkasi reported two each.
The new cases reported include two from Bihar, who tested positive at the domestic airport surveillance.
The Health Department bulletin on Monday said 869 persons were discharged after treatment, which leaves 6,971 active cases in the State as on date.
All the six deaths notified on Monday were persons with comorbidities. Three were from Chennai, and one each at Tiruvallur, Thanjavur and Virudhunagar. The toll in Tamil Nadu now stands at 12,228.
In the last 24 hours, 60,314 samples and 60,024 persons were tested for the infection.
