Tokyo, Jan 12 (Sputnik) The Japanese prefectures of Aichi and Gifu plan to ask the government to introduce a state of emergency in the regions amid the spread of COVID-19, the Kyodo news agency reported on Tuesday.
On Monday, Japanese media reported that the state of emergency declared in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba last week was going to be expanded to three more prefectures: Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo.
Kyodo reported on Tuesday that Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga had confirmed his intention to introduce a state of emergency in Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo, which could happen as early as Wednesday.
According to the news agency, the prefectures of Aichi and Gifu also plan to ask the Japanese government to introduce a state of emergency in the regions, possibly at the same time with Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo.
The state of emergency, which will limit public gatherings and cut the working hours, encouraging people to work remotely, is expected to last until February 7.
