A 76-year-old man appeared in the Warrenton Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape on Monday for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Dimakatso Mooi, it is alleged that the man is a traditional healer of the family and was assisting the victim's mother with the process of becoming a traditional healer. He had allegedly raped the teenager on two occasions while he performed rituals at the victim's home.
The matter was reported to the police on Sunday after the girl told her mother what had happened.
The man will be remanded in custody until 20 January, when he will apply for bail. The police investigation was continuing, Mooi said.
