Homeguard cop killed in an encounter

Munger, Jan 12 ( UNI) A cop of Home guard Md Zahid posted at Bariyarpur police station was killed in police encounter under the same police station area late last night.

Police Superintendent Maanavjeet Singh Dhillon said here today that following a tip-off about firing by the Maoists at Bariyarpur police station, additional reinforcement was sent from the district headquarters and the police station was covered by the security personnel.

He said the police fired in the direction the Maoists were firing.

One person died in the firing and the deceased was identified as home guard cop Md Zahid posted at Bariyarpur police station.

He said that the deceased was resident of Bakarpur village under muffasil police station area of the district.

Mr Dhillon said that the Cop was mentally ill and had refused to go along with his wife and son for treatment. He had told them that he would go after 2 days.

The body has been sent for post mortem and the matter was being investigated.
