“CUNY enthusiastically supports Governor Cuomo’s proposal to require all internet providers in the state to offer affordable broadband service to low-income households. The proposal would bring a critical benefit to tens of thousands of CUNY students struggling with inadequate internet access. The governor’s proposal will go a long way toward closing the digital divide and helping students succeed in college, graduate and pursue fulfilling careers and lives. CUNY also supports the Governor’s 2021 agenda to reimagine, rebuild and renew New York beyond the pandemic with a range of economic development and job training programs that will enable our students to play a key role in the recovery of the city and region. These include the state’s ongoing Workforce Development Initiative, which has already begun creating job training opportunities across the state and supported the efforts of CUNY colleges to help students adjust to a post-COVID job market.”
