Gurgaon gets ready for first shot, CMO takes stock

Gurgaon: The first Covid-19 vaccination drive in city will be held on January 16. Chief medical officer Dr Virender Yadav held a meeting on Monday with the private hospitals, urban primary health centres (UPHC), community health centres (CHC) to review preparedness.
He said in the meeting that the healthcare workers will be vaccinated first at six centres across the city. These centres are Wazirabad government primary school, government primary school of Daultabad; Medanta —The Medicity in Sector 39; UPHC Chauma, SGT Medical College in Gurgaon and PHC Bhangrola.
On Monday, a training programme was organised for the staff at mini secretariat where they were informed how the data has to be uploaded on the CoWIN app. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the vaccine through video-conferencing on January 16. The launch event in Gurgaon will take place at government primary school in Wazirabad. The CMO said that necessary arrangements like signage to guide people at the vaccination centre and directions to officers and other employees have been given regarding the Covid-19 vaccine.
The CMO, however, clarified that the vaccine won’t be administered to children below the age of 14 years and pregnant women.
The vaccine would be given in two doses that will have a gap of 28 days.
Centres where the vaccination drive will be carried out have been instructed to keep the entry gate and exit gate separate and to all ensure that the centres are well-ventilated and drinking water and washroom facility is available.
Meanwhile, Gurgaon on Monday reported 72 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally of cases to 57,560. A total of 61 recoveries were also reported in the city. With this, the number of active cases in city is now 789. In the last 24 hours, the health department and private labs conducted 3,001 tests, of which 330 were rapid antigen tests and 2,671 are RT-PCR tests.
