Manesar MRTS project approved five years ago, but yet to take off

Gurgaon: It’s been more than five years since the first detailed project report of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) project was approved by the state government and a year since the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) took over the project from HSIIDC, but the project still remains on paper.
According to government sources, while work is progressing at a rapid pace on the Gurgaon metro and Gurgaon-Faridabad metro link, there hasn’t been any progress on the MRTS project that connects Gurgaon to Manesar. The project was rolled out in 2015 and was supposed to be completed by 2017.
“As of now, the focus is on the Gurgaon metro and the Faridabad metro project,” said a senior GMDA official. TOI tried to contact HMRTC for a status on the project, but could not get a proper response. An official said that all the information is there on the HMRTC website. The website however mentions that the DPR was last revised in 2016.
TOI had reported in January 2020 that the HMRTC had taken over the MRTS project from HSIIDC and had tweaked the route alignment. While earlier the MRTS was to run between Huda City Centre and Manesar, the new route was proposed to start from the railway station. TOI also reached out to HSIIDC MD Anurag Agarwal, but he did not respond either.
The initial plan was to develop MRTS in two phases with a link between Huda City Centre and Manesar in the first phase.
