Farmers welcome SC order to stay implementation of farm laws, but not agree with committee

Farmers welcome SC order to stay implementation of farm laws, but not agree with committee

New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) After the Supreme Court stayed the implementation of three farm laws till further orders and constituted a four-member Committee, the farmers camping at the national capital borders since late November reiterated on Tuesday that "now it is not the time for a committee".

Farmer leaders welcomed the Supreme Court's order that stays the implementation of the newly-enacted agri laws, but said they would not call off their protest until the legislations are repealed.

The Sankyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of around 40 protesting farmer unions has called an urgent meeting in the afternoon regarding the top court's judgement.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the decision to form an expert panel, farmer leader, Harinder Lokhwal, said they won’t be part of the panel that had “only government people”.

Adding that they are not willing to participate in any proceedings before a committee appointed by the Supreme Court, farmer unions said a formal decision on this will be taken by the Morcha.

Protests will continue and there will be tractor parade on January 26, farmers said. They said that protests will continue even after January 26.
