Why a scientific approach to cow protection is needed

The Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aaayog (RKA) under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying recently announced a national-level online exam on cow science. The Kamdhenu Gau Vigyan exam will be conducted on February 25 in four categories — primary to class VIII, class IX-XII, college-level, and for the general public, including foreign citizens.
Puneesh Kumar, IT and media coordinator, RKA, told Education Times, “Despite being a nation dependent on dairy and other livestock products, the public is not deeply concerned about cow protection. Our knowledge about cows is limited and it is imperative to make people aware of the scientific approach needed to handle desi bovines. We also want to educate young entrepreneurs to preserve and sell milk and milk products.”
Since cow entrepreneurship is rising, this exam will provide a platform for the participants to study, learn and showcase their knowledge.
The last date to register for the exam is February 18, 2021. The exam will be conducted in will be in English, Hind, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu and Odia.
“Cow science has not received mainstream attention because not many academicians are involved in the research. The exam will motivate young students to scientific understand benefits of desi bovines. We are estimating around 1 crore registrations for the exam this year. All the finalised details will be released on January 14,” Kumar added.
The one-hour exam will have 75 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The state and national level merit-list will be announced on February 26 and will be awarded cash prizes and certificates. The RKA will also upload literature and reference books for candidates to prepare for the exam.
