KOLKATA: A 24-year-old woman, who was pursuing an advanced course in hotel management, allegedly died by suicide at her Haridevpur home around 10.30pm on Sunday. She has been identified as Payel Saha.
According to cops, Saha, an auto driver's daughter, had taken a loan to pursue hotel management and wanted to be financially independent. But since 2019, her dream job remained elusive and the Covid situation added to her woes. As loans piled up, she started working at a club on Camac Street. This job, however, was not enough to pay for her loan.
"We believe, she also had some family-related problems. But we need to find more evidence in this regard. We are now ascertaining if she was under pressure at work or had some personal issues," said an officer from Haridevpur PS. The family, however, denied about any pressure on her. Her suicide note, too, does not blame anyone.
"On Monday afternoon, when her parents went to Tarapith to offer pujas, Payel sent her grandparents to the kitchen to make her chow mein and her sister to the market. In the meantime, she hung herself in her room," said sources.
Haridevpur police got information about Saha's death from SSKM Hospital police outpost.
