Eurofins unveils new test method to assess filtration capacity of masks

Eurofins Textile Testing Spain in October unveiled and validated a new test method to assess the filtration capacity of masks with 100 nanometre particles, estimated size of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The test can evaluate the efficacy of surgical and hygienic masks. The method is based on Particle Filtration Efficiency, which measures the filtration capacity of masks with 0.1 micron droplets, equivalent to the size of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The test can be used to evaluate the efficacy and safety of surgical masks and hygienic masks.

Polygiene ViralOff proven effective against SARS-CoV-2

Polygiene in September announced that in the first test ever using the ISO method (ISO 18184:2019 Textiles) on the SARS-CoV-2 virus on textiles, Polygiene ViralOff was confirmed the first commercial textiles treatment in the world to reduce the virus by over 99 per cent over two hours. The purpose of treating textiles with ViralOff is not to protect the wearer from infection or make any other health claim. It does not have to be cleaned or disinfected. Consumers already wash clothes where it is not really necessary, out of worry for odour and habit. Adding concerns over viruses will add to this.

EPA finds PDI’s wipes effective against COVID virus

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in September approved the SARS-CoV-2 efficacy claim for Super Sani-Cloth wipes, produced by PDI, a global leader in infection prevention products and solutions. Before a product legally makes efficacy claims against a pathogen, the claim must be approved by the EPA based on a thorough review of scientific data. The approval expanded the label claims for Super Sani-Cloth wipes to include deactivation of SARSCoV-2, the virus that causes covid-19, after one minute of contact time on hard, nonporous surfaces.
