GURUGRAM: Residents of sectors and sarpanches of villages that have been taken over by the newly formed Manesar municipal corporation met commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh on Sunday and discussed various civic amenities that need upgrade. Pataudi MLA SP Jrawta and Rakesh Daultabad, the legislator from Badshahpur, were also present at the meet.
This was the first such meeting attended by officials of the civic corporation, sarpanches, MLAs and RWA representatives. The issues that were discussed included waste management, poor roads, lack of drainage system, water supply, streetlights, concession on stamp duty and public transport, among others. The residents also demanded development of hospitals, markets, parks, playgrounds and community halls in new sectors.
Praveen Malik, vice-president of the United Association of New Gurugram, said, “Most of the green belt along the sector road is not maintained properly. We have suggested that the corporation should engage RWAs to maintain greenbelts of the area. The expenses can be reimbursed by the civic body. Similarly, we have also urged MCM to implement waste segregation at source in the new sectors so that less amount of garbage reaches the landfills. Also, since the urban population in the area has increased manifold in the past few years, there is still no cremation ground which caters to the new sectors.”
The residents have also wanted a list of pending development work by HSVP and GMDA to be prepared by the corporation. Rao Dharamveer Singh, a social worker and resident of Mapsko Casabella, said, “The sector roads in our area are in a very bad condition. They haven’t been repaired for so many years. We have requested the civic body to complete the roads soon.” A few residents also raised the issue of lack of streetlights and their maintenance on the internal roads.
Sarpanches sought relaxation of taxes like property tax that villagers have to pay now that they come under a municipal corporation.
Commissioner Singh assured them the Manesar corporation would work according to the expectation of the people. He also sought cooperation from RWAs and sarpanches and assured them that the areas under the civic body would be developed in a phased manner. He also said that all records in the new corporation would be digitised.
