BENGALURU: Cries of a four-month-old boy alerted neighbours to the murders of his 25-year-old mother and 45-year-old grandmother at their residence in Bychapura near Devanahalli early on Sunday morning.
The deceased are Ramadevi and her mother Lakshmidevi, both from Bagepalli, Chikkaballapura district. Ramadevi’s live-in partner Malay Kumar Paridi from Odisha has been arrested. He confessed to slitting their throats, police said. Probe revealed Lakshmidevi insisted that Paridi marry her daughter, but he was against the proposal and decided to eliminate them.
Paridi works as a flooring and plumbing engineer at an apartment complex, where Ramadevi worked as a housekeeping staffer.
Paridi had come to Bengaluru in 2018 and joined work at the apartment complex. That’s where he met Ramadevi and fell in love with her. The duo began living together and Ramadevi recently gave birth to their child.
Police said later Ramadevi’s parents and brother also started living with the couple. Her parents demanded that Paridi marry their daughter, but he didn’t want to. Fed up, Paridi was waiting for an opportunity to kill them.
He learnt that Ramadevi’s father had landed a cook’s job at a hotel in Ananthapuram, Andhra Pradesh, and had left on Saturday. Her brother, who’s a driver with a private company, was also out for work. “Only the two women, the infant and Paridi were at home. He initially slit Lakshmidevi’s throat and later attacked Ramadevi. He may have done it in the wee hours,” a police officer said.
On hearing the baby cry, neighbours rushed to find out what had happened. They were shocked to see Ramadevi and her mother lying in a pool of blood. The neighbours informed jurisdictional Devanahalli police, who rushed to the spot. Paridi was nabbed in the evening.
