Anushka Sharma and husband Virat Kohli just welcomed 2021's first much-awaited baby: a girl, born on the afternoon of January 11. In his official statement on Instagram, Kohli said: “We thank you for all your love, prayers and good wishes. Anushka and the baby are both healthy and we are feeling beyond blessed to start this new chapter of our lives.”
Sharma and Kohli first announced their pregnancy in August 2020 with a surprise Instagram post that was met with much excitement from their fans, as well as celebrity friends like Alia Bhatt, Samantha Akkineni and Taapsee Pannu.
Sharma has always kept it real with her fans, and doubled down on that through her pregnancy too. “I didn’t think I could feel so tired. I am an active person and it was startling, but even when you’re in pain, or uncomfortable, you are still thinking: have I eaten at the right time? Is the baby okay?” she shared in Vogue India's January cover story. As far as raising their child, the couple has shared their parenting strategy too. “Conditioning is the most important role in how we see the world. I come from a progressive background, so that will always be a part of our home. Love is the underlying factor in our home, and what’s important to us is that our child be respectful of people. You have to create that value structure. We don’t want to raise brats,” Sharma said during the chat.
How much will fans be able to see of Sharma and Kohli's baby? For the time being, the couple would like to keep the exposure to a minimum. “We definitely do not want to raise a child in the public eye—we don’t plan on engaging our child in social media. I think it’s a decision your child should be able to take. No kid should be made to be more special than the other. It’s hard enough for adults to deal with it. It’s going to be difficult, but we intend to follow through,” she said.
