Former Meghalaya Congress legislator passes away

Shillong, Jan 11 (UNI) Veteran Congress legislator from Meghalaya, Dhrubanath Joshi,
passed away on Monday.
He was 98.
Joshi was elected to Meghalaya Legislative Assembly since its inception in 1972, for
six long consecutive terms.
During his tenure, he held several posts in the state government as chairman of
different boards and as a member of different committees in the Meghalaya Assembly.
He was also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Chief Whip of his party.
Joshi also held the position of Chairman of several Government of Meghalaya
Undertakings and held several important positions in the party.
“Due to his friendly and amiable nature he (Joshi) was near and dear to all those who
came in contact with him and was very popular among the masses. His religious nature
also endeared him to the people,” State Congress Working President, James Lyngdoh
said, while condoling his demise.
Infact, Joshi was one of the few Congress MLAs who was responsible for installing the
first ever Congress Government in the State led by (L) Capt. W. A. Sangma.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma took to social media expressing grief over
the demise of the veteran Congress legislator.
“Saddened to learn about the demise of six-time MLA, Shri D. N Joshi Ji. He dedicated
his entire life in the service of the State & committed towards the development of
educational institutions. He also worked extensively for the welfare of the Gorkha
community in Meghalaya,” Sangma said.
