Government extended its condolences to the loved ones of co-founder and executive director of Peotona Holdings Group, Dolly Mokgatle, on Monday morning, following her death on Saturday at the age of 65.
Mokgatle was among the founders of Peotona Holdings Group in 2005 alongside GoldFields chairperson Cheryl Carolus, Absa Group chairperson Wendy Lucas-Bull and BP Southern Africa chairperson Thandi Orleyn.
The Peotona Holdings Group includes Peotona Investments, which uses its investment muscle in support of small businesses and empowerment and the economic empowerment of women as well as woman-owned enterprises.
Mokgatle also served as a non-executive director at IQ Business, CEO of Spoornet, managing director or Eskom’s Transmission Group and deputy chair of the National Energy Regulator of SA's board.
In a statement released by the Government Communications and Information System, director-general Phumla Williams hailed Mokgatle as a leader among professionals at state-owned entities as well as the private sector.
"This is truly a sad day, as we have lost a leader who recognised the critical importance of gender equity and the empowerment of women. She was a staunch believer in educating and mentoring girls to achieve their dreams," Williams said.
The cause of Mokgatle's death remained unconfirmed as of Monday morning.
